BREAKING NEWS: Washington Wizards Win A Game!

STOP THE PRESSES!! NOW!! The BIGGEST story of the century here in Washington is that the “professional” basketball team which resides in the Nation’s capital finally won a “professional” basketball game against a real, live, fully-rostered team that so too happens to be a member of the National Basketball Association.

It doesn’t get much better than this, people.

Over the past few weeks, whenever I wanted to forget about the futility that is the 2012 Philadelphia Eagles, I could turn to the local basketball team, the Washington Wizards, who started this season 0-12. Good enough (or just plain terrible enough?) for one of the worst starts to a season in NBA history–the worst belongs to the 2008-09 New Jersey Nets, who were 0-18 before finally cracking the goose egg.

Well, on this night it seems as though not even these Wiz kids can help me get over my crappy football team. Thanks to two supremely clutch free throws down the stretch, the Wizards held on–literally, like, they blew a 15 point lead late in the 4th quarter and had to hang on for dear life–to defeat the Portland Trailblazers 84-82. The game is sure to go down as an instant classic in the minds, hearts, and intestines of every Washingtonian. Or at least the few dozen or less who follow this team.

WTOP felt the win was important enough to send the following BREAKING SPORTS NEWS email to all subscribers:

This was a HUGE win for the DC basketball club in front of “14,000” die-hard fans at the Verizon Center–though, like the Eagles, it could be their last win of the season.

We’ll be on the lookout for any future breaking-news-worthy stories. If there are any, we’ll be sure to bring them right to you.
