What are the Odds?

Let us join the never-ending barrage of posts landing on the interwebs today about things more likely to happen than winning the $550+ million Power Ball Jackpot. It’s a sad ploy to get some views, and maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t. Either way, you’re here, and waiting, wanting this post to get to the point.

There’s a lot of thing more likely to occur than your sorry ass having the winning ticket (which, by the way, is 1 in 175 million). Here are some of the best that I’ve come across today:

  • Hitting “00” in Roulette — 1 in 38
  • Being on a plane with a drunk pilot — 1 in 117
  • Current (as of 11/15) odds of the Eagles winning the 2012 Super Bowl — 1 in 180
  • Eagles chances in 2013 — 1 in 290
  • Catching a baseball at an MLB game — 1 in 563
  • Having a fatal “slip” in the shower — 1 in 2,322
  • Chance that Earth will be hit by an asteroid in the next 100 years — 1 in 5,000
  • Hitting a hole-in-one — 1 in 5,000
  • Suffering a shaving inury — 1 in 6,585
  • Bowling a perfect 300 — 1 in 11,500
  • Winning an Academy Award — 1 in 11,500
  • Becoming a pro athlete — 1 in 22,000
  • Striking it rich on the Antique Roadshow — 1 in 60,000
  • Dating a supermodel — 1 in 88,000
  • Getting struck by lightning — 1 in 576,000
  • Getting killed by that strike of lightning — 1 in 2.3 million
  • Becoming President of the U.S. — 1 in 10 million
  • Being an astronaut — 1 in 13.2 million
  • Picking a perfect NCAA March Madness bracket — 1 in 13.5 million
  • Becoming a saint — 1 in 20 million
